The capital of the Golden Ring, the first Christian city on the Volga, the origins of the Russian theater – all this is about the picturesque Yaroslavl, located in the central part of Russia. Every day he meets tourists from all over the country, as well as from abroad. After wandering around the city, you can see a monument to the founder Yaroslav the Wise, visit one or several churches (and there are about 40 of them in Yaroslavl), enter the territory of a female or male monastery. 1. Volzhskaya embankment and Strelka

Walking around Yaroslavl, first of all, take a look at the Volzhskaya embankment. It offers an impressive view of the Volga, over which there are two bridges with busy traffic. The lighthouse will draw your attention with its spire. Nearby is the building of the river station, from where everyone can go on a small excursion by boat.

Turning to the right, you will see the legendary hospital house for the wounded officers of the Patriotic War of 1812. Another of the most romantic places on the embankment is the gazebo – a monument to the poet Nekrasov. For a long time, newlyweds have fastened locks here for eternal love.

And now you have a view of the Strelka – the confluence of two rivers: the Volga and Kotorosl. It is the historic center of the city and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here in 2010 a monument to the 1000th anniversary of Yaroslavl was erected, which is a stele with a height of more than 20 meters on a pedestal. Going down the stairs, you will see a complex of “singing” fountains.

2. Temple of Elijah the Prophet

Perhaps the most beautiful temple in Yaroslavl is the Church of Elijah the Prophet. This complex in composition building combines the main temple in the name of Elijah the Prophet, a small northern side-altar, a southern Pokrovsky side-altar with a refectory and a chapel of the Deposition of the Robe crowned with a tent. The frescoes, the main decoration of the Elias Church, represent an integral artistic expression of the idea of ​​the temple and are distinguished by a wide variety of subjects. 5. Church of John the Baptist

Such voluminous and high-quality murals are not found anywhere else in the world. Divine services are not held here today. John the Baptist Church has the status of a historical and cultural monument at the federal level. It belongs to the Yaroslavl Museum-Reserve and is protected by UNESCO.

6. Arena 2000

Perhaps every resident of our country knows the legendary hockey team Lokomotiv. Well, well-known hockey players are “brought up” in the “Arena 2000” ice sports palace.
